Why you need it
Slovak founders form US LLCs to sell to US customers and use US marketplaces and payment processors, which ask for the LLC's EIN. The EIN is also the number your LLC uses for its yearly filings with the IRS.
Because you live outside the US, you can't use the IRS online application. You can apply by fax, by mail or by phone. EINZAP uses the phone: a trained caller, named as your Third Party Designee on the
IRS phone hours in Slovakia
The IRS international line runs Monday to Friday, 6:00 am to 11:00 pm US Eastern time. In Slovakia (CET) that's:
| Period | Line opens | Line closes |
|---|---|---|
| Most of the year | 12:00 pm | 5:00 am next day |
| A few weeks in March and late October, when the US and Europe change clocks on different dates | 11:00 am | 4:00 am next day |
You don't need to be awake for any of it. We call during these hours and email you the moment your EIN is issued.
Filling in the SS-4 from Slovakia
- Your name (line 7a). The IRS doesn't accept diacritics. Write "Štefan Kováč" as "Stefan Kovac".
- Your address abroad (lines 5 and 6). Write the PSČ as in "811 01" or "81101", and drop accents from street and city names: "Kosice". Line 6 reads "City, Slovakia".
- Your phone. Start with +421.
- Line 7b. Without an SSN or ITIN it reads "Foreign". Never enter a made-up or local ID number.
- Mail from the IRS (line 4). Most founders use their US registered agent's address, so IRS letters don't have to travel abroad.
