What Stripe asks a US LLC for
- Legal business name, exactly as on your Articles and on line 1 of your
SS-4 . - EIN, the nine-digit number the IRS issued to the LLC.
- Business address and a description of what you sell.
- Details of the person who owns or controls the business, and a bank account for payouts.
Why name and EIN must match exactly
Payment processors check that the name and EIN you enter belong together in IRS records. A missing "LLC", an extra comma or a different spelling can fail that check, even when the number is right.
- Type the name exactly as the IRS has it. EINZAP shows you that exact line before you sign, and it's in your EIN email.
- Don't use a trade name or brand in the legal name field.
- Enter the EIN as nine digits, with or without the hyphen as the form asks.
If Stripe asks for proof
When the automatic check can't confirm your EIN, Stripe may ask for a document from the IRS showing the LLC's name and EIN. Your IRS confirmation, available on your EINZAP order page, is usually what they mean. Upload it as a clear PDF.
Tips that save a week
- Wait until you have the EIN before you start the Stripe application. Changing the tax ID later can restart the review.
- Use the same business address everywhere: Stripe, your bank and your website.
- Describe your products in plain words that match your website.
