Your EIN and Amazon.

Selling on Amazon through a US LLC means the LLC's legal name and EIN go into seller registration and the tax interview. Get them right once and they follow you everywhere.

Amazon runs its own verificationAmazon decides who can sell and may ask for documents and a video call. An EIN is part of registering a US LLC, but it doesn't guarantee approval.

Where the EIN goes

  • Seller registration: business type, legal name and business details.
  • Tax interview: the questions that produce your tax form. Your answers must match IRS records.

The W-9 or W-8BEN question

The tax interview asks whether you're a US person. For a single-member LLC owned by someone outside the US, the answer depends on how the LLC is classified for tax. A disregarded entity is generally looked through to its owner, so the owner's status can decide whether you complete a W-9 or a W-8BEN.

Check this with a tax professional before you submitThe choice affects withholding and reporting. Many sellers answer it quickly and have to redo it later.

Make the names match

  • Use the LLC's legal name exactly as on line 1 of your SS-4, including "LLC".
  • Keep one business address across Amazon, your bank and your EIN records where you can.
  • If Amazon asks for proof of your EIN, the IRS confirmation on your EINZAP order page is the document to use.

A note on SS-4 lines 16 and 17

For most Amazon sellers, line 16 is Retail and line 17 names the products, for example "Kitchen accessories sold online". Plain, accurate wording is best. EINZAP's form explains each line 16 option in plain words.

Amazon is a trademark of its owner. EINZAP isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Amazon. This guide is general information, not tax advice.
